Same-sex weddings in Thailand: planning with clear eyes

Thailand has long been one of the easier places in the region to hold a same-sex wedding celebration, and many resorts and private venues are genuinely used to it rather than merely tolerant of it.

The legal position on marriage registration is a matter of current Thai law and how it is applied, and it has been changing. We do not summarise it here, because a summary written months ago is exactly the thing that misleads people. What we can control is the experience. Before recommending a venue we confirm with the venue directly, in Thai, how they handle same-sex ceremonies, what wording their team uses and whether the staff who will be on shift have done it before.

Celebrants matter more than usual. Ceremony scripts are often written around a bride and groom, and we rewrite rather than substitute words awkwardly.

If family attendance is complicated, say so early. Seating, speeches and photography can all be arranged so nobody is put on the spot in front of a room.
