Siam Vows — wedding planning in Thailand

Guide

Marriage
equality.

Thailand's Marriage Equality Act came into force on 23/01/2025. Same-sex couples can now register a marriage here with the same legal rights and duties as any other married couple.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Requirements differ by nationality, by embassy and by district office, and they change. Always confirm with your own embassy and the relevant Thai authorities.

01

Who it applies to

It applies to Thai couples, mixed Thai and foreign couples, and two foreign nationals registering in Thailand. The document process is the same as for different-sex couples.

02

Recognition in your own country

This is the point that matters most. Whether your marriage has effect at home depends on your own country's law, not Thai law. Confirm it with your own authorities before you plan around it.

03

Choosing venues and suppliers

Thailand is broadly welcoming, but not every venue understands a same-sex wedding equally well. We ask each one directly before we put it in front of you.
