Koh Chang

Koh Chang is the quietest island we plan on, reachable without a long domestic flight and still largely undeveloped.

Koh Chang is jungle running down to the water, with far fewer weddings than the southern islands. It suits couples who want somewhere their guests have not already been.

Around five hours from Bangkok by road plus a car ferry, or a short flight to Trat followed by the same crossing.

November to April. In the wet months the ferry and sea conditions, rather than the venue, are what usually force a change of plan.

Dry from November to April. The island is genuinely wet from June to September and some resorts close.

We do not book Koh Chang in the deep wet months. In shoulder season a covered restaurant terrace is always held alongside the beach.

Five to six hours from Bangkok by road plus a 45-minute ferry, or fly to Trat and take the short crossing.

Boat trip with everyone on the second morning, beach ceremony at sunset, barbecue dinner and no schedule after that.

Accommodation is inexpensive, but specialist suppliers usually travel from Bangkok, so their transport and overnight stay belong in the budget.

Ceremonies here are symbolic; registration is handled at a district office on the mainland. Requirements differ by nationality.
